By entering this contest you are agreeing to the following conditions:

 

Eligibility

Entry is open to any writer worldwide over the age of 18 and entries must be the original and unpublished work of the entrant which is not currently submitted for publication nor for any other competition or award. Stories generated or written by AI are not permitted.

 

Entry costs

There is a fee of £4 to enter one story, £6 to enter two stories and £7 to enter three stories. This is payable via PayPal through the entry form webpage on www.failingwriterspodcast.com. If paying in an alternate currency, please ensure it is the equivalent of 4GBP, 6GBP or 7GBP as relevant to the number of entries you are making.

 

Deadline and entry format

For entries to be eligible to win the competition they must be within the word count, include the theme (“Birthday”) and also include the special phrase, which will be revealed in the episode that launches the competition. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that any entries not fulfilling the entry criteria will be able to receive a full refund. Entries must be sent via the online entry portal by midday (UK time) on Monday 19th October 2026. Please ensure to correctly fill in all the requested details - as once submitted, changes cannot be made. Maximum word count 300 words (excluding title).

 

Data

Any personal data relating to entrants will be used solely for the purpose of contacting the winners and will not be disclosed to a third party. Winners will be announced on the podcast as well as on our social media channels including publishing the name and country of location of the winner. If you tick the box to agree to further communications, that will be used to add you to a mailing list to receive emails about the podcast. We use POWr to manage all form submissions. By submitting this form, you acknowledge that the information you provide will be transferred to POWr for processing in accordance with their Privacy Policy and Terms.

Competition Judging

Judges will assess entries on originality, creativity, characterisation and readability. Their decision will be final, with no correspondence being entered into.

Notification

Winners will be revealed in the podcast episode published on Monday Nov 9th 2026. The Failing Writers Podcast retains the right to publish any entries, including winning entries, in the podcast and in online posts (including on failingwriterspodcast.com and all social media channels) which shall remain freely available online indefinitely. We also reserve the right to publish winning entries in an anthology at an unspecified future date either in print or online. Entrants retain copyright in their work.

 

Prize(s)

The main prize of £500 (gross before any transfer costs/currency conversions etc. are taken off if needed) shall be paid in pounds sterling via Paypal within 2 weeks of the winner being revealed. Runners up prizes may also be allocated at the discretion of The Failing Writers Podcast.
